BBC: Indonesia has again refused offers of peace-keepers. But a UN mission will be allowed back into East Timor on Saturday.

Statement from Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister blames rogue elements in Indonesian military for events in East Timor and says that authorities are regaining control.

Indonesia has agreed to let a delegation visit Dili. The UN has also announced it will leave 51 staff in Dili. The UN mission will be visiting Dili on Saturday to observe whether the peace is being kept.

The US says it is suspending military contacts.

Pressure is building on Indonesia to deal to the violence internally. Spokeswoman warns of a nationalist backlash taking place in Jakarta at perceived Western interference.
