ERB WARS ROUND FIVE: Don Brash, Unions, Inflation, Petrol Cos. - The reaction has been swift to yesterday's speech by Reserve Bank Governor Don Brash warning of rising interest rates if workers did not absorb the increasing cost of living. ACT's Finance spokesman Rodney Hide said today that the unions subsequent attack on the Governor raised questions whether the Reserve Bank Act could survive the operation of the Employment Relations Bill. Deputy Prime Minister said the new inflationary pressure was failure of petrol companies to pass on lower oil prices to consumers, and suggested a wage freeze.
