Dr Lynda Scott not seeking re-election
National Party Health spokeswoman and Kaikoura MP Dr Lynda Scott has decided not to seek re-election to Parliament.
"I have immensely enjoyed working on behalf of the people of Kaikoura and I intend to continue my vigorous representation of the electorate until the next election.
"However I have now reached the conclusion that it's time for me to pursue a new direction and make a return to medicine, which is my first love.
"I spent many years and a lot of energy training to become a doctor and I am now at the age and stage of my life when, after six years out of medicine, I must decide whether to dedicate my life to politics or return to work as a doctor."
Lynda Scott was the National Party's Blenheim branch chair in 1996/97. She became the executive vice-chair in 1998 and was elected as MP for Kaikoura in 1999.
She completed her schooling in Christchurch at Mariehau High School, before moving to Wellington to train as a nurse then Auckland to train as a doctor. She is currently National's spokesperson on health, senior citizens and disability issues.
"I'm standing aside at this time to give my hugely supportive electorate organisation the time it needs to find an outstanding candidate to take Kaikoura's concerns to the Beehive.
"I look forward to working with my successor in the electorate and will give them my every support.
"I will continue to work hard for this electorate and support the principles of the National Party," says Dr Scott.
