Flood Victims Benefit from YHA Capital Breaks

Donation Includes 400 Free Nights’ Accommodation

The accommodation network with a 70-year history in New Zealand has donated 400 free nights’ accommodation to New Zealand Red Cross, to benefit victims of the recent flooding.

YHA Capital Breaks consist of two nights’ accommodation at Wellington City YHA, and a free introductory tour or a ride on The Time Warp at Te Papa, New Zealand's national museum.

As a not-for-profit organisation, YHA New Zealand fosters opportunities for travellers of all ages, from New Zealand and overseas, to connect with the local community and natural environment.

“Throughout its 70-year history, communities have supported YHA in New Zealand. YHA was built by community volunteers and this is our way of putting something back into a community in need,” says Hugh Canard, YHA New Zealand Chief Executive Officer. “YHA Capital Breaks allow those affected to enjoy a couple of days in Wellington and visit Te Papa, forgetting the floods for a while.”

Wellington City YHA offers four star-plus accommodation just off Courtenay Place. The 300-bed YHA has harbour views, a sun-filled atrium for dining and spacious, separate common rooms for reading, games and TV.

Today’s YHA Hostels offer double, twin and family rooms, many with ensuite facilities. They all feature fully-equipped kitchens, spacious common areas, 24-hour guest access, fresh linen and friendly, knowledgeable staff.

“We look forward to hosting New Zealanders who have been through terrible times with the recent floods,” says Hamish Allardice, Wellington City YHA Travel and Accommodation Manager. “We hope they will enjoy some time away to relax, with easy access to Te Papa and the city centre.”

Two hundred YHA Capital Break vouchers will be distributed at the discretion of New Zealand Red Cross. (Limit: one voucher per person). Each voucher consists of two nights’ accommodation at Wellington City YHA and is valid from 13 April to 13 July (excluding Friday 4 & Saturday 5 June). “Introducing Te Papa” tours run at 10:15am and 2pm daily.
