Libertarianz Leader standing for WRC

PRESS RELEASE
LIBERTARIANZ
COUNCIL ELECTIONS

Libertarianz Leader standing for Wellington Regional Council

"Get out of our lives and out of our pockets" is the catchcry for Libertarianz candidate for the Wellington Regional Council, Bernard Darnton, as he announced his candidacy today.

Darnton, who is Leader of the Libertarianz Party, declared his wholehearted commitment to the Wellington Regional Council protecting private property rights to the maximum extent legally possible under current law, and avoiding to the maximum extent legally possible interfering in property-owners' rights to do as they wish on their own land.

"I will oppose any increase in rates, and oppose the Regional Council's agenda of expanding its activities. I say instead it should be selling its shares in Centreport, paying off its debt, and encouraging private provision of infrastructure and public transport. It should not be taking more and more money from ratepayers and planning their lives with it," declared Darnton.

"Only Libertarianz believes that people own their lives, that local government should shrink in size and that rates should be reduced - other Council candidates continue the creeping growth in local government. I oppose it" he concluded.
