Auckland City nominated candidates

Registration for nominations for the local authority elections closed at noon today.

Attached is the interim list of nominated candidates for mayor, councillors and community board candidates for Auckland City. The electoral officer is still making checks to the list and a final list will be available at www.aucklandcity.govt.nz on Monday 23 August.

To be eligible to stand in the 9 October elections, a candidate must be a New Zealand citizen, they must be on the electoral roll anywhere in New Zealand and they must have lived at his or her current residential address for at least one month.

To register, candidates must complete a nomination form with one nomination (with candidates able to nominate themselves) and a second.

The completed form is sent to Independent Election Services Ltd with a $200 deposit, a recent photograph of the nominated candidate and a 150 word profile which will be published in a booklet and sent out with voting documents.

Nominated candidates are responsible for their own election campaigns. A limit based on population is placed on how much a candidate may spend on his or her campaign with $70,000 the highest amount for a population of 250,000 or more. These include donations and joint campaigning. The independent electoral office checks the campaign expenditure receipts after campaigning has finished.
