Tennent Re-elected as Mayor of New Plymouth

Peter Tennent Re-elected as Mayor of New Plymouth District

The local authority elections 2004 have resulted in three new councillors on the New Plymouth District Council, and Peter Tennent being re-elected as Mayor.

Peter Tennent received 16,991 votes for Mayor, more than 9000 votes more than his nearest rival Sherril George (7596 votes). Russell Gilmer received 2019 votes for Mayor.

Colin Johnston won a seat on the Waitara Community Board, but as he also has been elected onto council his community board seat has instead gone to the next-highest polling candidate, Trent Hall.

This is Mr Johnston’s first term on council, along with Gordon Brown and Neil Wolfe.

The results of the local authority elections are:

New Plymouth District Council Mayor: Peter Tennent New Plymouth Ward: Lynn Bublitz, Gordon Brown, Maurice Betts, Phil Quinney, Neil Wolfe, Elaine Gill, Alison Rumball, Barry Finch, Howie Tamati, Mike Merrick. North Ward: Sherril George, Colin Johnston. South-West Ward: Heather Dodunski, Alex Matheson.

Waitara Community Board Craig McFarlane, Ken Bedford, Joe Rauner, Trent Hall.

Taranaki Regional Council (New Plymouth Ward) David Lean, Tom Cloke, Barry Marsh, Moira Irving.

There were no elections for the Kaitake, Inglewood and Clifton community boards in New Plymouth District as the number of nominations matched the number of available seats. The community board members are: Kaitake Community Board: Keith Plummer, Doug Hislop, Fay Looney, Barney Procter. Inglewood Community Board: Richard Jordan, Graham Meads, Alister Nelson, Jean Pierce.

Clifton Community Board: Ian Vickers, Rena Wallace, Judy Ransom, John Oxenham.
