Tim O’Brien Thanks Campaign Supporters

Tim O’Brien Thanks Campaign Supporters

Wellington Mayoral candidate, Timothy O’Brien, today thanked his supporters with the following message posted on his campaign’s web-site:

The votes are in – though we don’t know any numbers the preference order is clear and I congratulate Kerry Prendergast on winning a second term.

I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me and who placed their confidence in the ideas we put out. Even though the result may be disappointing in some aspects, I feel very strongly that we were able to raise issues which would otherwise have gone uncovered in the campaign and to a certain extent changed the agenda.

For me personally, I feel this is only the beginning of acting on and advocating these ideas and issues. It’s too early on this morning after to say what the next steps will be, but having started something it will be followed through.

My campaign started out with four other people. It was nerve-wracking for a few days to wonder if that would be it. But it’s been incredibly inspiring to have encountered the number of people who came forward to help. Many of them were total strangers to me before but they’ve delivered fliers, and spread the word with amazing enthusiasm and energy.

Finally there was the terrific campaign team without whom nothing would have been possible. Their totally committed work and original ideas stretched a very small budget which was entirely dependent on donations a long way and gained a lot of attention.

Thank you all again.
