Snowbaby Lauren Rees-George

For immediate release 27 November 2000

GIFT OF A LIFETIME FOR NEW GENERATION OF SKIERS

The first of hundreds of New Zealand babies born on 14 November this year has received her free Life Pass to the newly combined Mt Ruapehu Ski Area.

Lauren Rees-George is the newest member of a three-generation strong skiing family and the first baby to receive the special gift.

Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, owner of Whakapapa Ski Area, has gifted this unique pass to all babies born in New Zealand on Tuesday 14 November 2000, to celebrate the Commerce Commission approval of its purchase of Turoa. These lucky kiwis will never have to pay to ski at Mt Ruapehu.

On hearing of Lauren’s birthday gift, her parents Natalie Gauld and Matthew Rees-George, dubbed her their “new little skier” in her birth notice.

To claim this once in a lifetime offer new parents around the country must fax their contact details and a copy of their baby’s birth certificate to (07) 892 3732 before 6pm on December 15, 2000.

The parents of these lucky babies need not miss out – 3000 of these special Mt Ruapehu Life Passes are on sale to the wider public. The pass allows ski bunnies to ski and board at both Turoa and Whakapapa Ski Areas for the rest of their lives, without having to pay for lift passes ever again.

“We believe the new combined ski area on Mt Ruapehu heralds a momentous new beginning for our ski industry and our special gift lets us share this excitement with the first new generation of Kiwi skiers and boarders,” says RAL General Manager Dave Mazey.
