Telecom Working To Restore Mobile Phone Services

Telecom is working to restore mobile phone services to customers on the 025 network, after a software problem caused outages to many customers this morning.

"We are working with software supplier Ericsson to resolve the problem as swiftly as possible and hope to have most affected customers back on the network within a few hours," Telecom's General Manager, Mobility, Lorraine Witten says.

"We apologise to affected customers and want to assure them that we and Ericsson are pulling out all the stops to restore service," she says.

The outage has affected service to prepaid customers and up to 60% of customers on post-paid call plans.

Customers affected by the outage have not been able to receive calls and may have had problems making calls.

Calls to the emergency services 111 network are not affected.

Telecom is asking customers trying to make calls in a few hours time to switch their phones on and off several times before attempting to use them, to register with the 025 network again.

The outage occurred at 7:00 am this morning after problems with a software upgrade.
