Farmers can Minimise their "Auckland" Tax
Farmers can take steps to reduce their "Auckland" tax, says Federated Farmers of New Zealand (Inc) Vice President Tom Lambie.
"Road user charges for light vehicles under 4 tonnes are set to increase by almost 34% on 1 April 2002. Petrol excise tax has already increased by 4.7 cents per litre," said Mr Lambie.
"You can take two steps to keep the tax down. Firstly buy your road user charges now, as the increase does not come through until 1 April. Secondly apply for a refund of the excise paid on petrol consumed in off-road use eg ATVs and petrol utes.
"It is outrageous enough that Government is taking an ad hoc short term approach to appeasing Aucklanders. Don't allow them to have a further windfall gain by allowing excise to be collected from off-road use."
