Workers at Caterair fearful of job losses

Media Release

Workers at Caterair fearful of job losses as Air NZ cans in-flight meals

Workers at Caterair, the company that provides in-flight meals for Air New Zealand, were shocked to hear via the media yesterday that Air New Zealand plans to stop providing in-flight meals on their domestic services.

“The domestic service is a substantial part of Caterair’s business”, said Darien Fenton, National Secretary of the Service & Food Workers Union.

“This decision by Air New Zealand is obviously going to impact on the approximately 400 workers based in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. It is a terrible way for them to find out they could lose their jobs.”

“The SFWU will be talking with both Air New Zealand and Caterair about the situation and will be taking action once we know what the workers are facing”, said Ms Fenton.

For further comment contact Ms Darien Fenton on –
0274 360 089 (mobile) or 09 810 9226 (evening).
