CTU Welcomes Labour Policy Commitment To Fairness In The Workplace
The Labour policies provide a stark and enlightened alternative to the National/ACT option of returning to the failed and unfair policies of the 1990’s the CTU President Ross Wilson said today.
The Labour Party employment relations policy was released today by Labour Minister Margaret Wilson.
“The Labour policy builds on the work of the past three years and signposts a new objective of family-friendly conditions of employment in all New Zealand workplaces,” said Ross Wilson.
“The policy will support and challenge employers and unions to build workplace environments that provide decent standards, invest in workers health and safety and skills development, support a balance in their lives, and produce the results that successful countries like Finland and Ireland are getting.”
“We have to move on from the conservative authoritarian management style in our workplaces to more open, co-operative relationships to achieve personal satisfaction and productivity success.”
Ross Wilson said the CTU also welcomed the particular commitments to fine-tune the Employment Relations Act, upgrade the Holidays Act and paid parental leave, improve the legal protections for casual workers and employment conditions on sale or transfer of business, address gender pay inequities, and strengthen health and safety laws.
