NZ Schools to receive over $500,000 worth of Computers and other Related Computer Resources

Westfield together with Apple today announced that they have forged a partnership for the benefit of NZ primary and intermediate schools to provide over $500,000 worth of computers, and associated educational equipment in a major community initiative. “Computer equipment has fast become an essential learning tool for schools. Fundraising for these educational resources is an important part of primary and intermediate school life”, said John Widdup, Director, Westfield New Zealand.

“Westfield and Apple are committed to ensuring that Shop for your School sees schools across the country being rewarded with computers and other electronic equipment such as digital cameras”, said Mr Widdup.

“Apple is one of New Zealand’s leading suppliers of computer hardware and software to schools, and as such, was Westfield’s natural partner for such an initiative”, said Brent Simpson, Apple Education Manager K-13.

Brent Simpson of Apple welcomed the Shop for your School campaign, as another way of helping schools access the technology which has become such a fundamental part of their teaching and learning programmes.

“Westfield and Apple are supporting our local schools, to aide in the education of young New Zealander’s”, said John Widdup, Director, Westfield New Zealand

The Westfield and Apple ‘Shop for Your School’ campaign invites shoppers to collect points for the nominated school of their choice.

The more receipts collected from any retailer in the nine (9) Westfield branded shopping centres, the more points the shopper receives for their nominated school. At the end of the campaign, the top ten schools with the most points per student at each centre, i.e. 90 schools nationally, will receive computers and other electronic equipment such as digital cameras.

Westfield has successfully run the community initiative ‘Shop for your School’ campaign throughout Australia over the past two years providing over $3 million dollars in computers to schools, benefiting over 250,000 students.

For a school to participate all they need to do is complete a registration form and return it as soon as possible to their local Westfield shopping centre. There is no cost to schools to register – free entry. Registration forms are also available from the Westfield Customer Services Desks.

The campaign will run from 1 May to 14 July 2003.
