New Luxury Hostels Everything But Base-Ic

base Backpackers, the world’s first luxury hostels, have opened the doors to two new properties in Wellington and Auckland respectively.

Graeme Warring, CEO of base, promises both hostels will offer backpackers in New Zealand state of the art facilities, superior comfort and super high levels of service never seen before in backpacker accommodation.

“base recognises that the backpacking industry has changed dramatically and will continue to do so,” says Warring. “Backpackers today are better educated, have more money to spend and are more experienced travellers than your average backpacker was fifteen years ago and therefore they expect better standards and a greater range of services from a hostel. Our aim is to set new benchmarks for the discerning backpacker market, but our rates will remain as little as $22 a night. We’re not trying to change the backpacker experience, just make it better and more reliable while still keeping a friendly and relaxed vibe.”

Typical services offered at base hostels include bars with chill-out areas, quality restaurants, state of the art security, regular entertainment, TV lounges, modern shared cooking facilities, larger shower cubicles, the best quality fabrics, bed linen and pillows, 24-hour check ins, travel desks and on-site job clubs as well as assistance with visas, banking and more.

Plus, base will offer its guests exclusive features, such as the ‘Sanctuary’, an upmarket girls-only zone which features luxurious bathrooms, full length mirrors and hair dryers as standard, towels and amenity packs full of products travellers haven’t had since leaving home such as Aveda.

base is also committed to maintaining a standard of cleanliness rarely seen in budget accommodation. Bathrooms are cleaned every four hours and high traffic areas such as kitchens and common areas are cleaned at least three times daily.

Warring says the openings of base Wellington and base Auckland have special significance to the base company.

“base originated in New Zealand and we’re proud to see backpacking become one of New Zealand’s greatest tourism success stories, with foreign exchange earnings continuing to grow exponentially,” says Warring. “The backpacker sector in New Zealand is not only the most resilient in the tourism market, but it is also the sector with the most potential for growth.”

Over the next eighteen months, base will be opening hostels in all major backpacking destinations in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.
