Emirates Launches New Routes To Shanghai And Glasgow

In a same-day double-first, fast-growing Emirates Airline yesterday started non-stop services to two new destinations: China (Shanghai) and Scotland (Glasgow).

All three daily flights from Auckland to Dubai will provide direct connections with the Glasgow service.

Travelling on the inaugural Dubai-Shanghai flight EK302 were Yang Wei Guo, Dubai Consul-General for the People's Republic of China, and a top-level Emirates team led by Tim Clark, the airline's President, and Ghaith Al Ghaith, its Executive Vice-President Commercial Operations Worldwide.

On arrival in Shanghai they were greeted by a VIP delegation that included His Excellency Juma Rashid Jasim, UAE Ambassador to the People's Republic of China; Li Huaxin, Deputy Director General of the West Asian and North African Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China; Xia Xinghua, Director of the Civil Aviation Administration of China's East China Bureau; Ms Cao Huifang, General Manager, Shanghai International Airport Company and Richard Vaughan, Emirates Senior Vice President Commercial Operations East Asia and Australasia.

The Emirates delegation to Glasgow, Scotland's largest city, was headed by Keith Longstaff, Senior Vice President Commercial Operations Europe, and included Peter Sedgley, Vice President Commercial Operations for Emirates' SkyCargo.

Mr. Longstaff was greeted on arrival by Patricia Ferguson MSP, Minister for Parliamentary Business, Glasgow Airport MD Stephen Baxter, Councillor Charles Gordon, leader of Glasgow City Council, and Councillor Jim Harkins, leader of Renfrewshire Council.

Shanghai and Glasgow are the 75th and 76th airports served by Emirates' passenger aircraft. The new routes will give customers direct access to Dubai, one of the world's most dynamic and fast-emerging centres for tourism and commerce, and to Emirates' network of routes via Dubai to 53 countries.

FLIGHT DETAILS

Shanghai: Emirates will initially fly three times a week between Dubai and Shanghai, on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Daily flights start from May 15.

Emirates' Airbus A340-300 aircraft on the route will carry 12, 42 and 213 passengers in First, Business and Economy respectively, and some 13 tonnes of cargo. The airline also has four Boeing 747-400 freighter flights a week between Dubai and Shanghai.

Glasgow - Emirates' flight EK025 leaves Dubai daily at 7:30am to reach Glasgow at 12:25 the same day. The return flight, EK026, leaves Glasgow daily at 2pm, reaching Dubai at 12:30am next day. All times are local. The route will be operated by Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
