Trade Me & FreeParking Create Domain Marketplace

Online auction website Trade Me has partnered with internet domain name registrar FreeParking to sell “used” domain names.

All domain names listed for sale on Trade Me will now be shown on FreeParking’s “Used Domains” listing at www.freeparking.co.nz

”The partnering connects sellers of existing domain names with buyers, and makes it easy to complete change of ownership,” said Richard Shearer, GM of FreeParking.

“It also gives people a huge selection of names to choose from.”

Existing domains for sale on Trade Me include retirement.co.nz, petition.co.nz and cinderella.co.nz.

And for those with an exotic bent the stripper.co.nz domain name is available for just $1000.

Over 150,000 domain names are registered in New Zealand, with around 4000 new domains being added a month. Previously there has been no easy way for owners to sell domains, so Trade Me and FreeParking expect the used domain service to be popular.

FreeParking.co.nz is one of New Zealand's most popular authorised domain name registrars and a division of WebFarm Limited. It has registered more than 35,000 domain names.

Trade Me is New Zealand’s largest internet business. The latest Neilsen//NetRatings figures show Trade Me was responsible for 50% of all web pages served in New Zealand in July. It has over 500,000 New Zealand members and around 242,000 items for sale.
