Tsunami: Amex matches reward point redemptions

American Express matches reward point redemptions towards the Tsunami appeal

American Express New Zealand has announced it will match all donations made by Cardmembers towards the Tsunami appeal through the redemption of Membership Rewards™ points.

American Express Cardmembers can redeem loyalty points accumulated through Card spend to donate towards the Tsunami disaster relief appeals of Red Cross, Oxfam, World Vision or Save the Children.

The company says it will match all such donations through to 31 March. For example, when a Cardmember redeems 10,000 points to make a $50 donation, American Express will give an additional $50 to the chosen charity.

“Already the response of New Zealanders to the relief effort has been inspiring. We hope this decision will give our Cardmembers another way to make a meaningful difference to those affected by this tragedy,” said Rob Hennin, Country Manager of American Express New Zealand.

For more information about how to redeem Membership Rewards points to help the Tsunami disaster, Cardmembers can visit americanexpress.co.nz/tsunamirelief or call 0800 442 208.

The American Express Foundation is also matching employee donations towards relief efforts until February 28, and American Express has donated USD$1 million to support the work of the Red Cross and Red Crescent organizations in countries affected by the Tsunami disaster.

Points Redemption Example:
Reward Points Cardmember donation American Express matching donation Total donation
4,000 $20 $20 $40
10,000 $50 $50 $100
20,000 $100 $100 $200
