Paul Holmes Comes Out

In a radio interview last night, Paul Holmes knocked his interviewer for six. As part of his nationwide promotional tour to publicise his album, Holmes discussed aspects of the New Zealand music recording scene with Eddie O'Strange on the Town & Country radio show.

O'Strange, an activist for NZ songwriters and recording artists, authored the "Reclaiming Our Future" Report for Helen Clark, Marian Hobbs and the newly established Music Industry Commission.

"In my research I got the impression that Paul Holmes was not one of the broadcasters who we were on our side in trying to have a mandatory music quota for radio and television," said Mr O'Strange. "So you can imagine my surprise and delight when, with no mention of the quota, Paul came down on the side of our NZ musicmakers."

The Paul Holmes CD contains only one NZ song, "Lyin' In The Sand" by Harry Lyons.

"I've actually come to think there ought to be a quota. I'm really swinging around, Eddie," was Holmes' unsolicited affirmation.

Holmes also revealed he has written lyrics for original songs which may be the starting point for a second album.

Eddie O'Strange Ph: (04) 565-3164 21 Redvers Drive, Lower Hutt
