Air NZ Ad Single Storms Music Charts

Air NZ Ad Single Storms Music Charts

The recently released single from the Air New Zealand television commercial titled "Something New" has debuted at number three on the New Zealand music charts.

It is the highest rating Kiwi song on the chart this week behind popular American artists 50 Cent (In Da Club) and Amanda Perez (Angel) but outperforming UK R&B/garage band Mis-teeq (Scandalous) and Australian Delta Goodrem (Born To Try).

Air New Zealand commissioned Capitol Records to record and release the song, performed by fictional band "The Zephyrs" in the TVC, earlier in the month at the start of New Zealand Music Month, a move believed to be a first for New Zealand music.

"Air New Zealand is delighted by the public response to the single being released and is absolutely amazed with the number three position on the New Zealand music charts," says Air New Zealand Manager Marketing Michele Teague.

"It is a truly great achievement and a well deserved accolade to the writers and producers of the song Liquid Studios and vocalist John Barker."

The song features in the Air New Zealand commercial, produced by Auckland advertising agency Colenso BBDO, about a young band struggling to sign an overseas' record deal. The band members fly to America and hold a gig on a rooftop in front of Capitol Records' studio, successfully grabbing the attention of record producers first hand. The theme of the commercial is "Being There Is Everything".

The "Something New" single is sold exclusively through Sounds music stores for $5.00 and initially played only on the ZM radio network with other stations recently picking it up. The TVC has been screening throughout New Zealand Music Month.
