Nominees Announced for the 2003 b.Net New Zealand Music Awards.

The b.Net network of radio stations today announced the nominees for the 2003 b.Net New Zealand Music Awards. The nominees in each category include the best local music that has been broadcast across New Zealand over the past year. Voting is now open to everyone on-line at www.bnet.co.nz. The winners, chosen by popular vote, will be announced at the b.Net New Zealand Music Awards on Fri September 19 at the Bruce Mason Centre in Auckland.

Thousands of people voted in last years awards via the website. "Unlike most other awards ceremonies, the winners of the b.Net NZ Music Awards are chosen by the people of New Zealand," says Aaron Carson, Station Manager of 95bFM, "there are a lot of people out there with a passion for New Zealand music and we are expecting even more votes this year. "

The public can vote for their musical preference in twelve diverse categories. These categories range from "Most Promising New Act" and "Best New Zealand Remix" to "Best Downbeat Release", "Best Electronic Release" and "Best Rock Release". There are four categories to be judged by a panel of experts, including "Most b.Net Play" and "International Achievement".

The b.Net NZ Music Awards are organized in co-operation with b.Net radio stations across the country. This creates an awards ceremony, which is representative of the greater New Zealand public. A big thank you also goes out to PlayStation2 who have made this year's awards possible, through their continued support.

Background to the b.Net Music Awards

in the beginning…

mainstream music awards were staged by RIANZ, the major record companies umbrella organization. But the people grew restless and cried out for a change. They wanted an awards ceremony that expanded on the mainstream categories and that gave them the chance to vote. Auckland's 95bFM heard their cries, and in 1998 the 95bFM Music Awards were held at the Mandalay Event Centre in Auckland.

and then there was…

the b.Net NZ Music Awards. In 1999 the awards grew to include the other b.Net stations Radio 1 (Dunedin), Radio Control (Palmerston North), RDU (Christchurch), Radio Active (Wellington) & The Most (New Plymouth). These stations feature specialist shows, personalities and new music. Especially New Zealand music. Together they put together a music awards ceremony which included people's choice categories, giving the people of New Zealand the chance to vote.

today…

The b.Net NZ Music Awards have reached their sixth year. The people continue to vote, with passion and commitment, for their favourite New Zealand music at www.b.net.co.nz

The winning nominees will be announced at this years b.Net NZ Music Awards, on Fri Sept 19th at the Bruce Mason Centre in Auckland. As always these awards promise to be a true celebration of the diversity surging forth from the New Zealand music scene.
