SPRING SEASON EXTENDED AT MT RUAPEHU

** Last ski field to close in Southern Hemisphere **

The recent cold front has prompted Ruapehu Alpine Lifts (RAL), operators of Mt Ruapehu to extend the Spring season to 16 November at both Whakapapa and Turoa ski fields.

The extended season makes Mt Ruapehu the only ski area in the Southern Hemisphere to remain open in November, and the last in the region to close.

"With Ruapehu now open till mid November, skiers and boarders will be able to enjoy another six weeks of skiing in increasingly warmer temperatures and conditions," says Mike Smith, Mt Ruapehu Marketing Manager.

Mt Ruapehu is currently enjoying its highest snow base this season with a cold front dumping more than 55cm of snow in the past week.

Whakapapa's snow base is currently sitting at 220cm and Turoa's at 235cm, an all-time high for both ski fields this season.

"We are expecting another 20cm of fresh snow this weekend and with finer weather conditions forecast for next week, I'm positive we'll have a good start to the Spring season."
