FRINGE '04: After Kafka By Angie Farrow

Theatre Pataphysical presents:
AFTER KAFKA

BY ANGIE FARROW

Directed by Ryan Hartigan

WHY? The world he writes is dark, sexy and haunting, his characters profoundly pessimistic and whimsically humorous. Someday he will leave their midst. What happens after Kafka?

Kafka and six of his characters are held together, acting and reenacting pasts and presents that blur their separate realities. With frenzied attempts to create and destroy, they lead the audience through a gamut of theatrical worlds in the hope of writing themselves a future.

An experimental dark comedy, After Kafka delights the audience with surreally humourous, rich physical and verbal storytelling. Drawing on text, physical score and audiovisual material, it weaves together the lives and hopes of Kafka and his characters into a significant and entertaining piece of choreographic theatre.

WHO? From the pen of Angie Farrow, whose accolades include The Mobil Playwriting Award, and a Fringe First at the Edinburgh Festival, this surreal, sardonic work is directed by Ryan Hartigan. His last FringeNZ work, Ghost of Woody Allen, was described as ‘outrageously funny’ by the Sunday Star-Times; it ‘left me breathless’ said the DominionPost.

WHEN? Friday Feb 13th through Wednesday Feb 18th, 2004; 9:30 PM show.

WHERE? Bats Theatre, 1 Kent Tce, Mt. Victoria.

HOW MUCH?: $15 waged, $12 concession and $10 Fringe Addict card holders.
