Beige Brigade Inspires Retro Renaissance

The Beige Brigade listened with interest to world record-holder Martin Snedden's announcement that New Zealand's cricket team will return to the Beige Brigade inspired strips for February's 20/20 slog-athon match against the Australians. We love the idea of the New Zealand team responding to the support of their fans all over the globe who now come out to support the Black Caps with Beige Brigade gear on their backs.

We have been preaching the mantra "It's About Passion Not Fashion" for several years, now and have travelled the world (West Indies, Pakistan, England, Australia and South Africa) and the country (Basin Reserve, Caketin, Seddon Park, Lancaster Park, the House of Pain) in support of the Black Caps. It is wonderful to see that the impact of the Kiwi cricket fan wearing beige has inspired a complete change in the clothing that the national team will don come February. They have seen the writing on the wall - and it has been written with a Beige Brigade spraycan...

For five years we have been crapping on about the need to get back into beige. We have had support from media all over the world and of course the New Zealand players think the Beige Brigade is an effective, if slightly insane, cricket supporting unit.

So Kiwi fans, it is time to rug up and get into your horrific and terrific Beige Brigade gear now so you can be ready to give the Aussies some grief come February. Come and practise with us during the Chappell-Hadlee series in Aussie and then at home during the Sri Lankan tour. Of particular interest might be the skin-tight speedsuits in the brown and tan - as worn by Cathy Freeman, Mark Richardson and Flo-Jo.

We have no sponsors, we get the rugs made in NZ by some wonderful little old ladies in the Waikato, and we do everything we can to get NZ fans excited about the game we love, no matter where we are in the world or how we're performing on the field. Every buck we get we plough back into cricket in New Zealand - NZ-made stickers and fridge magnets, supporters' gear, tickets, donating kit to schools and charities, and buying ludicrous memorabilia like Martin Crowe paintings and Danny Morrison shirts.

The Beige Brigade is for the real NZ cricket supporter. We're been badly dressed for years, and we love it. We look forward to Kiwi cricket fans all over the world joining in the fun, and rugging up with us. We're going to the pub now to celebrate the coming of the Beige Brigade revolution. After that we will be getting some samples made up for the Black Caps to test in readiness for their Twenty20 match in February - all supplied free of course.

With the Black Caps returning to beige, the Beige Brigade's original objective is complete. Our next mission is to get them into the speedsuits...maybe at the West Indies World Cup in 2007.
