Witi Ihimaera participates in World Literature Programme

Prominent New Zealand writer, Witi Ihimaera, has received funding from Fulbright New Zealand to take up an annual short-term residency in World Literature at George Washington University, Washington DC.

The World Literature Residency Program is offered annually to a distinguished international writer.

“I am honoured to join the list of significant international writers who have undertaken the residency, said Professor Ihimaera.

Professor Ihimaera plans to give a public lecture on New Zealand literature; participate in a reading with other New Zealand writers; and will offer workshops or seminars to creative writing and film students on writing the novel and the experience of turning a novel into an internationally-honoured film.

Witi is the author of The Whale Rider, which has been made into an internationally honoured film.

His other notable works include Pounamu Pounamu, Tangi and Whanau.
