Students Have Their Say On Culture - The Simpsons Rule, Britney Sux

In research with significant implications for Marian “Bobo” Hobbs’ TV charter, student website Varsity.co.nz has found that students overwhelmingly rate The Simpsons as the greatest cartoon of all time.

Varsity.co.nz’s Anthony Keeling was prompted to initiate the research when his flatmate, ex-student and now corporate wanker Mark Donaldson, told him that “The Simpsons was the worst cartoon ever” and “I can’t believe you watch this crap”.

“I was determined to discover the truth from New Zealand’s smartest and hippest people - varsity students,” says Keeling.

In the resulting online poll of more than 300 of the nation’s brightest young things, The Simpson’s received over five times as many votes as any other cartoon. Kiwi ‘icon’ Hairy McLary, didn’t rate, nor did any other kiwi cartoons. Marian Hobbs will no doubt now have to provide tens of millions of dollars of taxpayer funds to set up a local TV cartoon production company at expensive premises in Auckland’s Viaduct Basin.

The poll results are available online at: http://www.varsity.co.nz/features/simpsons_the_best.asp

A simultaneous and equally important piece of research on Varsity.co.nz saw over 68 percent of the 346 students polled say that they would not be going to watch Britney Spears’ movie Crossroads. Many were so sickened by the prospect that they were moved to say “not even if it was free” – not words those familiar with the student community hear too often.

Of course, the most shocking aspect of the “Spears Finding” is that over 30 percent of those surveyed said that they would watch the movie. Even allowing for those who can’t resist a peek at Britney in her underwear, this finding must raise questions about something important, surely?

A collection of students’ more interesting responses is available online at: http://www.varsity.co.nz/movies/britney.asp

Be warned, Varsity.co.nz will be carrying out regular research in equally vital areas in the future and will probably want to share.
