Exercise TASMANEX 2001

Exercise TASMANEX 2001

A major New Zealand Defence Force joint/combined maritime exercise, involving ships and aircraft from Australia, France and New Zealand, will be conducted in the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean from March 5 - 16, 2001.

Named TASMANEX 2001, the activity is sponsored by New Zealand's Auckland based Maritime Commander, Commodore Mike Wardlaw.

An information pack on the exercise will be mailed to media on March 1st.

Opportunities will arise for media to observe the exercise as it progresses, initially from RNZAF P3K Orion aircraft of New Zealand's Maritime Patrol Force, then later from ships of the Royal New Zealand Navy's Naval Combat Force as well as the Orions.

Interviews with key exercise personnel may also be arranged.
