Bendon Launches Free Breast Self-Examination Card

Bendon Lingerie Launches Free Breast Self-Examination Card And Lingerie Sales Donation

Bendon Lingerie continues its longstanding support for The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation with the launch next month of a breast self-examination card to promote the message that early detection is your best protection.

Bendon will also mark October Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a donation to the Foundation from October sales of its top-selling Body Basics range in pink. The Body Basics range will be extended with a new pink colourway similar to that of the Foundation's pink breast cancer pink ribbon. A new luxury jacquard fabric will also feature in the range.

The Bendon Breast Self-Examination Card, designed and produced by Bendon, is free and will be available from the Foundation, Bendon's Bennett & Bain stores nationwide, Sanctuary by Bendon (Botany Downs, Auckland), Bendon on Broadway (Newmarket, Auckland) and selected Bendon retail partners throughout the country. The double-sided card outlines two easy steps for breast self-examination - the visible examination and the physical examination. It has been produced on high technology synthetic paper stock to ensure the card is exceptionally durable and waterproof for use in the shower.

Helen Mawn, the Foundation's Manager, says the Bendon Breast Self-Examination Card is a great initiative in promoting the message that early detection can save your life. "It's a fantastic way of reminding women about the importance of seIf-examination. If the card is put in a highly-visible place that they see, it can only encourage women to be breast aware," Mawn says.

The Bendon Lingerie Body Basics October donation initiative means $1 from the sale of any garment from the Body Basics range will go to the Foundation.

Suzanne Walters, Bendon Lingerie brand manager, says the Body Basics range is one of Bendon's most popular ranges - making it the perfect choice for the donation initiative. "We are giving our customers the opportunity to help make a difference this month through their purchase of Body Basics in pink. This is a key sponsorship initiative for Bendon. The new Body Basics jacquard fabric is also an exciting development for lingerie design," Walters says.

Body Basics in Jacquard features advanced technology high shine jacquard fabric and all the benefits of original Body Basics range such as concealed seams for smooth lines under clothing and the favourite T-shirt bra profile. A new moulded underwire bra offers superb support and shape up to 18DD. The original Body Basics range has also been further extended with a camisole and half-slip.

Other Bendon activity includes the completion of the company's inaugural staff breast health screening programme - B Seen to Screen. Seventy-five female Bendon employees recently completed the programme, fully funded by Bendon.

"Our main aim for B Seen to Screen is to raise awareness of the breast cancer issue and openly communicate to our employees the message that breast screening is vital for women of ALL ages. We hope that other companies will adopt similar schemes for their employees " says Walters.

B Seen to Screen involved three stages: an educational seminar hosted by Amanda Grey, the Foundation's breast health educator; an ultrasound screening; and follow-up treatment if required. "Of the 75 women screened, nine were referred to Breast Associates for further tests and minor treatment. We are very happy to say all of these women have now been given clear results," Walters says.
