Positive News For Orthpopaedic Operations Patients

“Promising News For Patients And Public Hospitals For Orthpopaedic Operations”

“The expected announcement of increased funding for orthopaedic operations is promising news for both patients and public hospitals,” said Mr Ian Powell, Executive Director of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists, today.

“One of the exciting aspects about this expected announcement is that it is linked to a commitment to build public hospital capacity including staffing, theatre space and beds. This is good news for public hospitals which in the 1990s were often unable to plan ahead effectively because of the short-term, haphazard and ideological nature of commercialised decision-making at that time.”

“The Orthopaedic Association deserves praise for its excellent advocacy on behalf of orthopaedic patients. It has provided an example that the rest of the medical profession can learn from.”

“Senior doctors have been, with good reason, critical of some aspects of the government’s performance in health. But, while the details have yet to be announced, on this occasion the government seems to have done well and deserves credit for its willingness to listen and engage,” concluded Mr Powell.
