Soup Night at the Auckland City Mission

Soup Night at the Auckland City Mission

Warming Soup Night to be served up at Auckland City Mission

The winter months are critical for the Auckland City Mission, with a 20% increase in demand for warm meals and food parcels.

Over the last 3 years overall demand has steadily increased. Last year more than 2,500 food parcels were distributed to families in need and this year more than 3,000 parcels are expected to be handed out.

In response to this growing need the Auckland City Mission and Hansells have come together to provide a warm meal for the homeless and those who need it. Soup night will be held at the Auckland City Mission, on July 6th at 6.30pm and is open to anyone in need of a warm meal.

Hansells, one of New Zealand's long-standing and trusted food companies, has donated 50 litres of King's Old Fashioned soup and several Hansells staff will help serve the meals on the evening.

"We're really pleased to be donating King's Old Fashioned soup to such a good cause," says Susan Harvey, Hansells Brand Manager. "It's a great way for us to give back to the community and really make a difference to people that are struggling during these harsh winter months."

Auckland City Missioner Diane Robertson agrees. "Winter is a difficult time for many of our clients. Basic requirements like heating, clothing and extra bedding are often needed, and with illnesses such as coughs, colds and flues so prevalent, getting by can be a difficult. There's nothing like a hot cup of soup on a cold winter night," she says.

To further strengthen Hansells commitment to the Auckland City Mission's cause, they will also donate 70 crates of a variety of Hansells food products for distribution with food parcels, recognising the 70 years that Hansells has been in business since its formation in 1934.

The Auckland City Mission is located at 140 Hobson Street in Auckland city.
