Lindsay Perigo: Say 'FTG' to Ugly Wimmin

Who'd be an employer? All that money - YOUR money - that you have to give to the Molesworth Mafia via the IRD; all that time - YOUR time - you have to waste deducting portions of what you pay your employees - THEIR money - on the Mafia's behalf; all those forms you have to fill out at the Government's bequest - PAYE, ACC, GST, FBT ...

Isn't it time to say, "FTG"?

The latest outrage is PPL - Paid Parental Leave. The Prime Minister told a gathering of cloth-cap socialists that she's keen to work towards 14 weeks parental leave for employees with new babies. She wants taxpayers to foot the bill. The Minister of Ugly Wimmins Affairs, Laila Harre, wants the employer to foot it. This is the same Laila Harre who once praised Stalin for achieving in 20 years what it had taken the west 200 years to achieve (if she were counting corpses, she'd be right, many times over). The impasse over who should pay for this fresh form of theft is likely to delay it, as the extortionists fight over just who the victim should be. Ms Harre is determined to fight to the wire, meaning - hopefully - that the delay will be long. There'll be some free entertainment along the way - ugly wimmin who don't work at all will be stomping around the streets on Thursday (Working Women's Day) in demonstrations for PPL.

The Employers Federation's policy manager, John Pask, points out, quite sensibly, that people are free to NEGOTIATE paid parental leave with their employers, "but it should not be imposed across the board on the taxpayer, let alone the employee." But the Federation's chief executive, Anne Knowles, has taken a more wimpy line, whimpering that the Government "will no doubt weigh up all the costs & benefits. If the Government decides a payment to those on parental leave is more important than equivalent spending on health, education, defence or other priorities, then that is its right. It is a matter for the community & the government to decide." Dear Uncle Joe! Talk about appeasement! This is akin to a private landholder during Stalin's reign, of which Ms Harre is so enamoured, writing to the Great Leader: "Dear Comrade Stalin - no doubt you will weigh up the costs & benefits of exterminating me. If you decide to exterminate me, that is your right. It is a matter for you & your glorious proletarian government to decide."

PPL provides an opportunity for employers - & everyone else - to take the bold new stand suggested above: FTG!!
