Scoop Feedback: A Posting From A Nazi

-- From Scoop’s “why on earth did we receive this” mail file. The following email was received by Scoop on Saturday via the Scoop feedback form, before the race riots began in Oldham, Manchester. It appears to emanate from a member of a UK extreme right wing organisation called Combat 18.

From: John Tyndall
Subject: Sir Oswald Mosley
Comment: Mosley was never on the extreme right...

MOSLEY WAS NEVER ON THE EXTREME RIGHT, BUT HE WAS USUALLY EXTREMELY RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING.

You still see Mosley described as a Right Wing extremist. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Extreme Right want to preserve things the way they are (or even were): Mosley on the other hand was a revolutionary who wanted great social changes. When asked where he stood on the political spectrum he always replied that he was on the Hard Centre. The word 'Hard' was important, it differentiated him from the liberals whom he regarded as the Soft Centre.

Eternal Synthesis.

One of Mosley's great contributions to political thought was his ability to synthesise, or combine, the essential values of two apparently diametrically opposed opposites - and create something that satisfied the essential interests of both sides. For example, his syndicalist-based economic policies synthesised the belief in enterprise, initiative and incentives usually associated with the Right with the regard for employees' rights and economic justice normally associated with the Left. He was able to develop political policies that synthesised the opposing interests of Capital and Labour; Industry and Agriculture; Science and the Environment; Youth and Old Age; Pacifism and Militarism; Traditionalism and Modernism; and Town and Countryside, to name but some.

In the course of his long life he gave many warnings. But for every warning he gave a solution too.
