Help Needed For Origins Of "Baasil" The Ram

My name is Roy Eunson, I live in Toronto Canada.

A few years ago, on Father's day, as a joke, my daughter presented me with a full sized stuffed sheep(complete in EVERY detail.) This must rate as one of the weirdest Father's Day gifts ever.

But, I loved it, I think he's great and is obviously quite a conversation piece with visitors.

"Baasil" measures 4'3" long, 3' high and 1'6" from horntip to horntip. He is mounted on a wooden base with a metal plaque engraved with "J Howell, Dannevirke, New Zealand".

Can you help me solve the mystery of "Baasil", former resident of Dannevirke? Who is J. Howell and how did "Baasil" end up in Canada?

Baasil's future is uncertain as we live in an apartment downtown and Baasil is ensconsed in the guest bedroom, much to the chagrin of my wife (and some of our visitors.)

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Sheepishly,

Roy Eunson.

P.S. If you can't help would you please forward this to the local Dannevirke newspaper.
