Supercomputer Weather: Snow For Afghanistan
Snow and winter cold are coming to Afghanistan over the next four days according to the latest NOAA medium range supercomputer weather forecast. This is likely to inhibit the aid effort, substantially worsen the plight of refugees, and slow any attempt to begin an offensive against the Taleban in the North East of the country by the Northern Alliance.
The images below show precipitation (coloured lines) initially in the north-east of Afghanistan, where the Northern Alliance is, and then later through much of the rest of the country.

Meanwhile these images show temperatures in three degree bands indicating much of the country will be below freezing point as the precipitation fall. In the center of the country and the north east temperatures are well below freezing, and even in the South it is not a great deal warmer.
