IN THE REALM OF THE CENSORS

Welcome again to New Zealand's most provocative collection of films.

If last year's fest was the equivalent of bungee jumping, you could say that this is the year the rubber snapped. Believe me, the above line is not just there for a throwaway gag on the Oshima classic IN THE REALM OF THE CENSORS. In 2002 you won't find a more challenging array of cinema in one single film festival anywhere in the world. That's not just hyperbole that's a fact. We're even beating Australia to the punch on many films and are proud to present their Southern Hemispheres. Not even the mammoth AK & Wtgn film festivals can claim that.

The films included in the 2002 Special Edition of the BECK'S INCREDIBLE FILM FESTIVAL have been sourced from around the globe, we've had agents blending with the public at festivals in Spain, Europe, Canada, Australia and the US, eavesdropping and eventually stalking sales agents until they sign their film over. It's this maverick attitude, laced with sheer determination for seeing these films with a NZ audience, is what guarantees results. We want it and viola! You got it.

There have been major changes in the direction this festival has gone over the past year or so. The emphasis is now mainly devoted to new cinema from around the globe, focusing on popular genre films and others that caused tsunamis at film festivals everywhere. Now it's your turn to experience the 'hoopla' first hand.

This years line-up includes scorching films from Japan (VISITOR Q, THE HAPPINESS OF THE KATAKURIS, VAMPIRE HUNTER D), Germany (Das Experiment) Korea (THE ISLE, BARKING DOGS NEVER BITE, MUSA, JOINT SECURITY AREA) India (ASOKA) and many many more.
