Feedback: Thank John Roadley, Not Helen Clark

Re: Paulo Politico Article 14 May 2002

Dear Sir/Madam,

The recent article on your website is seriously flawed. When will journalists realise that:

- good economic growth at present has nothing to do with the government, rather it has lots to do with global dairy prices and the low NZD. Don't give Helen Clark the medal, ring John Roadley or Craig Norgate. They create the real jobs in this country.

- "employment growth is a key indicator of economic growth" What???????? Are you kidding? The labour market lags general economic growth by a considerable time period. Every Economics 101 student knows this. Or haven't any of your journalists run a business, is that why they presume this is the case?

- Where is the New Zealand economy going now??? Consider this dairy prices have fallen dramatically, the NZD is rising, US demand looks subdued in the medium term, and household debt is at record high levels. Now do you think Helen can mange this? Judging by comments about NZ equities I don't think so.

I would appreciate it if you could find a real economist to write an article on the New Zealand economy and our current economic management, not some left wing journalist.

Cheers

Love the site

Duncan Sherratt
