With fingers crossed that the weather holds, Scoop is this week taking readers on a virtual visit to Whakapapa ski-field. For the benefit of foreign readers this is on Mt Ruapehu in the centre of New Zealand’s North Island.

Perhaps the most exciting part of any days skiing is the first ride up the chairlift. Such sweet anticipation…

The Waterfall at Whakapapa is so called because of this, fairly small waterfall. When the snow melt comes it gets bigger and bigger.

Once you rise above the waterfall you find the snow playground Whakapapa is famous for. In the middle is a large cafeteria. There are three T-Bar lifts close to the café and another away to the west.

Pause to admire the view. WOW!

And then its time to find your way back down.

The view back down. The closest tow is the Waterfall T-Bar, to the right you can see the Knoll Ridge tow.
