Cirkus: Hilarity From Before the Curtain is Raised

Cirkus Inferno: Hilarity from before the curtain is raised

The promoters promised mess mayhem and a fun-filled pre-Christmas treat and Wednesday’s opening night of Cirkus Inferno lived up to all predictions! From even before the stage-curtain was raised, almost everyone in the audience was splitting their sides laughing.

Cirkus Inferno is on at The Civic in Auckland until Saturday November 29. The show is hilarious, and is the perfect family entertainment treat.

The story goes like this: When Lucky and Lady show up for The Daredevil Opera Company’s Cirkus Inferno they find the main show is cancelled and this lovable pair of troublemakers create a new one as they find their way onto Rocket Johnny’s rocket pogo and Roxanne Roll’s jet skates, get tied to the Hound of Hades and even end up in Hula Lula’s grass skirt and ukelele.

The humour is simple and tuned into all age groups. It’s a rare thing for a comedy act to appeal to little children, teenagers and adults alike, but Cirkus Inferno does this with skill. Exploding popcorn, water pistols, pyrotechnics, slapstick adventure, circus skills and outrageous visual effects combine in this fun-filled pre-Christmas treat.

Amy Gordon, who plays Lady, (Ukulele Lady and Foxy Babe) steals the show with her love of applause and stage lights. And Jonah Logan who plays (Toasterhead) Lucky is the perfect ‘straight man’ in this clown comedy duo.

For those who love silent movies there are glimpses into expressions from the all time greats. Within Lady’s face, you will see glimpses of Stan Laurel, but much more too, and in Lucky there is the disapproving frown of Oliver Hardy - albeit without the bulk. Well, that is until a vacuum cleaner accidentally blows up his overalls to an almost explosive size!

It is clear these two International stage actors love what they do. Who else could squirt scores of people with water and have them laugh right back? Lady’s giggles and cheers are contagious.

You will never have seen such a mess as is created at this Civic theatre performance! There is popcorn and streamers everywhere, and water… well better leave this to your imagination, at least until you see the show. Be assured it is a highlight!

The hilarity for young ones is non-stop. Cirkus Inferno is a marvellous show packed with moments of interactive fun which will have your children laughing along at memories of this even for ages.

Principal actors, Amy Gordon and Jonah Logan play Lady and Lucky.

Amy Gordon was most recently seen on Broadway in AntiGravity's Crash Test Dummies, Amy has worked as a clown with the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, New York City variety clubs, Royal Caribbean International, Circus Minimus and as the other half of Matlock & Gordon in their show, A Tale of Two Sillies. She has a degree in theatre and has studied clown with Kenny Raskin, David Shiner and Phillipe Gaulier. Her work has been seen on television, film and numerous stages around the world. Amy has also directed and choreographed many original and classic works.

And Jonah Logan is known as the world’s most dangerous clown! Jonah has worked as a thrill clown and support for AntiGravity’s Crash Test Dummies on Broadway, Cirque du Soleil and various shows worldwide. He is an accomplished designer and stunt performer and has worked extensively as a licensed pyrotechnician. Jonah is also the creator and clown of The Daredevil Opera Company that brings Cirkus Inferno to Auckland’s The Edge Civic Theatre..
