Memorandum Of Understanding With Mayors' Taskforce

Government Agrees Memorandum Of Understanding With The Mayors' Taskforce For Jobs


Social Services and Employment Minister Steve Maharey and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development Jim Anderton will launch a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Mayors' Taskforce for Jobs tomorrow evening (Tuesday 12 Septembr 2000).

The Mayors' Taskforce for Jobs was formed earlier this year to provide a national focus for employment and community development initiatives taking place in local communities. The MOU sets out the shared commitment of central and local government to work on reducing unemployment through partnership initiatives.

Taskforce Mayors Garry Moore (Christchurch), Basil Morrison (Hauraki), John Chaffey (Hurunui), Claire Stewart (New Plymouth) and Jenny Brash (Porirua) will attend the launch accompanied by Jan Francis, Mayors' Taskforce for Jobs Executive Officer. Officials from the Ministry of Economic Development and the Department of Labour, and Vivian Francis, representing The Jobs Research Trust, will also be present.

Time: 6.45-7.30pm
Drinks will be served

Ministers Anderton and Maharey and Mayor Gary Moore will speak briefly about how the MOU will contribute to the development of effective job creation partnerships between central and local government. Copies of the MOU will be available at the launch.
