Acting Prime Minister Jim Anderton has expressed condolences on behalf of the Government and people of New Zealand on the death of the Right Honourable Pierre Eliott Trudeau.
"He will be remembered as a significant Canadian whose vision of Canada as an equitable society inspired the hearts and minds of his people.
"He was an outstanding leader of his country and a dominant figure on the world stage. We offer the Trudeau family and the people of Canada our deep sympathy," Jim Anderton said.
