Minister Panics Over Brain Drain

There is a note of desperation creeping into the Labour Government's Immigration policy in a vain attempt to stop the brain drain, National Immigration Spokesperson Marie Hasler said today.

"The recent arbitrary amnesty and the proposed lowering of migrant investment criteria are just two examples of sudden changes that lead to uncertainty and apprehension for prospective migrants and investors.

"The Minister has a 'duty of care' to New Zealanders to maintain the integrity of our immigration policy. Sudden changes in policy do nothing to inspire confidence.

"Stable economic and employment indicators are a far more effective way to stop the brain drain and encourage more migrants," Ms Hasler said.
