Contact Comes To The Party To The Delight Of MP

Waimakariri Member of Parliament Clayton Cosgrove is delighted his meeting with Contact Energy has resulted in changes that will save further constituents having their power cut off with no warning.

Mr Cosgrove met this week with the General Manager, Sales and Marketing for Contact Energy after a number of constituents had their power cut off with no warning letter from Contact Energy.

Mr Cosgrove said “I am very pleased Contact Energy have come to the party and credited the affected constituents for the $110 disconnection and reconnection fees, as well as providing them with a $50 credit for loss of refrigerated food and inconvenience caused.”

“Contact Energy have also promised to review the way they deal with customers who had arrangements with the former power company, Mainpower, and Contact will also look at their own disconnection process,” Mr Cosgrove said.

“Contact Energy were very keen to see the matter sorted out and I am pleased I was able to help in this matter.”

“This is a good example of the kind of cases that will be put before the new Electricity Ombudsman recently announced in the Governments Power Package,” Mr Cosgrove said.

“Power consumers will have an independent body to turn to when they are unfairly treated by power companies. This shows the Government is committed to rectifying Max Bradford’s so called energy reforms which he put in place under the previous government.”

“At the end of the day consumers must be treated fairly.” Mr Cosgrove said.
