Injury And Rehabilitation Bill

Injury And Rehabilitation Bill Helps Youth, Women, Seasonal Workers

"The new Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation Bill will deliver on Alliance policy and will be a major achievement for the Labour Alliance Coalition Government," said Youth and Women's Affairs Minister Laila Harré today.

"The new Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation Bill gives a better deal for women, young people and seasonal workers," Youth Affairs Minister Laila Harré said today.

"In the past people on unpaid parental leave and seasonal workers missed out on weekly compensation when they were injured. It was unfair and discriminated against people who most needed protection – people who did not have regular weekly wages.

"The Alliance has worked hard to make sure those anomalies are remedied with this Bill.

"The new Bill provides a more flexible assessment of loss of earnings when people are injured and extends earner status and entitlement to weekly compensation to seasonal workers and people on unpaid parental leave".

Ms Harré says the point of the changes is to provide a fairer and more certain way of determining compensation, which better reflect people's 'normal' earnings pattern.
