Government Must Give Economy A Helping Hand
Thursday 8th
Feb 2001 Rodney Hide Media Release -- Economy
The lower
unemployment figures are good news for the unemployed, ACT’s
Finance Spokesman Rodney Hide said. “But the problem we have
is that the Government has done nothing to help
employers boost the economy – quite the reverse,” he
said.
“It is now more costly to employ a person
than it was a year ago. The Employment Relations Act
makes it hard to sack an employee – which means they are
less likely to be offered a job in the first place.
“To
really beat unemployment and encourage sustainable
economic growth, New Zealand needs to free up the labour
market and drop taxes. This Government has gone the other
way,” Rodney Hide said.
