Government Agency Wastes $22 Million

Government Agency Wastes $22 Million

Monday 5th Mar 2001 Penny Webster Media Release -- Other

A Government agency squandered $22 million of road users’ money, ACT Transport Spokesman Penny Webster said today.

“Transfund NZ has decided to waste $22 million on Auckland councils’ bid to create a light rail system,” Penny Webster said.

“This is a disgusting waste of road users’ money.

“Money meant for roads, and collected in road user charges, should be spent on roads.

“The Government and Auckland councils must abandon their ill-conceived ideas of a light rail system.

“We need to complete Auckland’s motorway network, not waste money on another public transport system that will never be used.

“Aucklanders like their cars. Cars are here to stay, and transport solutions must recognise this,” Penny Webster said.
