Music, muffins and mirth marks start of CAB Awareness Week

Community and Voluntary Sector Minister Steve Maharey and well-known comedian Pinky Agnew join Citizens Advice Bureau staff at Wellington Railway Station tomorrow morning (Monday 18 March) to mark to launch Citizens Advice Bureau Awareness Week.

Mr Maharey said he accepted the offer with some trepidation, particularly as Pinky has been asked to keep it 'light and entertaining' – but he was prepared to accept minor humiliation to promote the excellent work carried out by the nation's 2750 CAB volunteers and 85 paid staff spread across its 91 bureau.

Last year the CAB helped more than half a million New Zealanders with information, support, options, advice and advocacy on a very wide range of issues, including consumer rights; education and training options; employment and unemployment issues; health and welfare issues; housing advice; legal issues; personal, family and relationship matters; immigration issues and local and general information.

The face of the CAB is changing with clients receiving help face-to-face, via an 0800 number, by e-mail and in cyberspace through the CAB website at www.cab.org.nz.
