Cyber Theft Happens In New Zealand

The Labour-Alliance Government is not doing enough to protect New Zealanders from the sort of credit card scam on the front pages of our papers today, National's Commerce spokesman Tony Ryall said today.

"Credit card companies in New Zealand are losing millions and millions of dollars to Internet fraud. The Government is doing nothing about that.

"The Computer Crimes Bill currently before Parliament is a 1980's solution to 21st Century crime.

"The Government should stop dithering and move swiftly to put legislation in place and provide authorities with the tools to protect New Zealand Internet users," Mr Ryall said.
