Spouse reacts to Mallard claims

Rosemary Bradford, wife of MP Max Bradford, has reacted to claims made by the Minister of Education, Trevor Mallard, in and out of the House last week.

"Mr Mallard made utterly inaccurate statements about my wife in the House under Parliamentary privilege, and distributed material to the media. His comments and the material were not only hurtful and inaccurate, but have caused significant damage to Rosemary's professional and commercial reputation," Mr Bradford said.

Rosemary Bradford has instructed lawyers to write to the Minister of Education Trevor Mallard about the material released by Mr Mallard to the media following statements he made in the House last week The application is being made to the Speaker under Standing Order 161.

"Rosemary has only reluctantly taken this course of action. It has been discussed with the Speaker.

"Rosemary and I have no wish for this matter to continue to poison the Parliamentary environment, but Mr Mallard's actions last week have caused my wife considerable grief.

"The issues are now with Rosemary's legal advisers. No further comments will be made either by my wife or I at this stage," Mr Bradford said.
