Organics Inquiry Released On Thursday

A select committee inquiry into the potential of organic food production in New Zealand will publicly release its report this Thursday (26 April) at Commonsense Organics, 260 Wakefield Street, at 2pm.

The inquiry - which was held in the Primary Production Select Committee at the request of Green Party Agriculture Spokesperson Ian Ewen-Street MP - has taken nearly a year, has heard over 85 oral submissions and received over 120 written submissions.

"With the BSE and Foot and Mouth crises ravaging Europe and with consumers rightly becoming more and more concerned about the safety of their food, the timing of this inquiry into the role organics could play in New Zealand is very timely indeed," said Mr Ewen-Street, who is also an organic farmer.

"This inquiry has been very timely."

Mr Ewen-Street will be speaking at the launch of the report and will issue a press statement on the report's findings at the launch.
