Police Minister Urged to Change PERF Rules

Police Minister Urged to Change PERF Rules

Monday 30th Apr 2001 Ken Shirley Media Release -- Other

Convicted rapist, Police Constable Colin McLean, should not be eligible to receive $200,000 of taxpayers’ money under the PERF scheme, says ACT Police Spokesman Ken Shirley.

“It is an affront to common decency that he has even applied to PERF, as the scheme was designed so that those forced to leave the police on medical or psychological grounds would not be unduly penalised. If McLean receives a taxpayer contribution then this would be the most obnoxious golden handshake of all time.

“I call on the Minister of Police to step in immediately and make any changes necessary to the PERF scheme to ensure that applications to PERF in such circumstances will not be accepted,” Mr Shirley said.
